DRY BRUSHING & EXFOLIATING SOAPS
A great glowing complexion on both the body and the face relies on a regular exfoliation routine. It’s such a simple concept. If we are going to spending top dollar on skincare with key ingredients (hyaluronic acid, retinol, Vitamin C, antioxidants, peptides, etc.), slathering it on the cleanest blank canvas will ensure absorption and effectiveness.
Do you know what type of athlete has the best skin? A boxer. Because they take such a beating on their face, the repeated mechanical stimulation forces the skin to repair, recoup and build more collagen. Also, look at men who shave regularly. They tend to have a more timeless look and wrinkle-free skin
When it comes to the skin on our body (remember skin is our largest organ) – why not give it a good scrubbing to reveal what’s underneath. Provide a clean slate to let your yummy moisturizers soak in and not get clogged on top of dead skin flakes.
The best way to exfoliate the body is with an exfoliating handmade bar of vegan soap (We make several – Lavender-Oat, Oatmeal Stout, and Champagne Bubbles). These soaps contain natural physical exfoliators such as oatmeal, jojoba beads, and poppy seeds to provide that mechanical sloughing of the skin. You can also buy a separate exfoliator to really work into stubborn areas (We are working on some formulations with a local coffee company – stay tuned there!). Look for a salt or sugar scrub one with an all-natural base such as coconut, sesame, or olive oil.
Dry brushing is also a great ancient Ayurvedic method. Once we heard Victoria Secret models were doing this to eliminate cellulite we were sold. This method is done with a simple and inexpensive natural brush (found at health food stores). You basically do this before a shower or bath by brushing in the direction of your heart. It helps stimiluate the lymphatic system and gets your blood flowing. While obviously exfoliating, this method is doing so much more to stimulate your skin cells, help lessen the appearance of stubborn cellulite, and is absolutely energizing. I recommend doing this in the morning or even twice a day. Here is a link on how to dry brush –> Goop Dry Brushing. I dry brush the crap out of my thighs, ass, and stomach. Even the back of my arms getting a couple extra passes in hopes of tigtheing things up and avoiding dry patches.
Ok, so once you are all exfoliated to the hilt, time to moisturize. Your skin is ready to receive some goodness. Use an all natural oil (Coconut, Olive, Sesame, almond, avocado, or whatever agrees with you) or an natural lotion which does not contain water. Obviously our Hand & Body lotion is a wise choice. We love the easy to use pump and have it all around the house so we can slap it on whenever we walk by it.
